This term has been exciting with the arrival of two goats and two sheep for our paddock. The goats were bought from Sanson, and the sheep were donated by Daniel and Julie Rea.
The goats escaped by jumping over the goat and were caught when we got them inside the school. Thankfully, they are vain and curious or we would never have caught them. They liked looking at themselves in the school windows and when we opened the door, they wandered inside. Now the fence and gate are higher they can free range in the paddock. The sheep were a bit wild to begin with but are gradually becoming quieter. They enjoy the goats’ company. We hope they will have lambs in the spring. Students enjoyed putting on old clothes and gumboots and collecting sticks and branches to make a fire pile. Hopefully, we will be able to light this in the future (with the Fire Department’s permission). The children are enjoying nature and feeding the goats during their break times.
